All citizens in the state of Michigan are required to license their dogs four months or older. A current rabies vaccination certificate from a licensed Michigan veterinarian is required in order to license dogs. There is no reciprocity for out of state dog licenses, however, dog licenses from other Michigan counties are recognized.
All revenue taken in from dog licenses supports Eaton County Animal Control. Licensing protects public health and welfare and helps assure the safety of your pet.
Dog licenses may be purchased in person at the County Treasurer's Office, purchased online, purchased by mail (PDF), or at various veterinary clinics listed below. A valid vaccination certificate must be presented at the time of purchase.
In 2020 licensing will change from a calendar year renewal to a renewal date based on your pet’s rabies vaccination date. All 2019 licenses will be given amnesty until the rabies vaccination date of the dog in 2020.
For example, if a dog was vaccinated in May of 2019, the current 2019 dog license will not expire until May 31, 2020.
